Sumsing on Samsung...

Pansy bought a new cellphone.
This is amazing, considering she was emotionally attached to her old Siemens phone. It was something of an icon - I mean, how many people still have Siemens phones these days?

That phone was a rock. Good old deutsche Qualitaet. They just don't make cellphones like they used to. It had been dropped, drenched, drizzled with olive oil, and yet, it never faltered.

Alas, after six years, the time had come for the Siemens to be charged no more. A 10 minute battery life gets terribly impractical after a while.

Pansy is getting used to her new Samsung. It's a good phone. She wanted a simple phone with a camera and radio. Interestingly, it has prayer times and Qiblah direction loaded on the menu.

Pansy likes to be informed about various beliefs, but she doesn't really want them preloaded on a cellphone. Under the new consumer protection act, information regarding settings on the phone would need to be disclosed to a consumer, and the religious information is not mentioned on Samsung websites.

So she has contacted Samsung South Africa to find out if the religious content may be removed from the menu, failing which, if she will be able to return her phone.

Pansy is sure removing the content can be done. Surely this menu content isn't on all E2120s sold globally? Perhaps Samsung had excess stock for muslim regions that they sent to South Africa?
