The Football-Files III: Vuvuzela limerick

The silence of the vuvus.

Pansy went giddy with excitement when she walked into Cresta last week and was greeted by a sign banning the blowing of vuvuzelas in the mall.

She wrote a limerick in honour of the occasion:

There was a loud trumpet called Vuvu,
Whose B-flat made people go cuckoo.
They promptly complained,
"This noise must be tamed!"
And now it's no longer an issue.

  1. Origin of the word vuvuzela: a reader wrote to me and said that the word comes from Debussy's visit to Cape Town. Debussy saw a vuvuzela in a shop window and asked, "Avez-vous vu cela?"
