Drugs, a family dis-ease: Part 1 (Pansy's Pause)

There has been a lot happening in the Petal's life since we last wrote on Christmas Eve:

A crisis with the South African Home Affairs Department, a trip to New York where she watched 8 Musicals in 6 days, she adopted two dogs from the SPCA, and coping with a friend on drugs.

With regard to the latter issue, being a die-hard fan of everything that does not involve conventional medicine, Pansy promptly prescribed herself a combo of homeopathic tissue salts to ease worry and facilitate concentration because she has exams coming up.

The impact of drug use on friends and relatives seems to be totally underrated.  No-one suggested to Pansy that she might need help herself, and the thought certainly never crossed her mind - she was so preoccupied with trying to help her friend.

However when digging on yet another website about drug treament programmes, she came across a support group for family and friends.
"Interesting, " she thought to herself, "let me see what that is about."

Several websites later, and Pansy now realised that the drug user is not the only one that needs help, but also family, relatives and friends.

Petal is a great one for online surveys and quizzes.  A recent quiz to determine her lingerie personality ascertained, amongst other things, that her idea of a perfect evening is to curl up on the couch with a good book and a cup of chai tea.  How the heck did they guess!

No matter, I digress.  The questionnaire on whether she needs a support group for family and friends of drug users gave a result of a resounding "Yes!"  Her favourite question was, "Are your suspicions turning you into a detective...?"

She then came across a survey of drug (ab)users, which showed that 61% of drug users have full-time jobs.  So the common perception that drug users are typically losers with bad teeth and black nail polish is completely misinformed.

There'll be more about the dogs and New York later.  But for now, I'll share the story of Pansy's recovery from the pain of having a loved one that is on drugs.
